O*NET® Interest Profiler^TM

Overview

This instrument is a self-assessment career exploration tool that can help clients discover the type of work activities and occupations that they would like and find exciting. Clients identify and learn about broad interest areas most relevant to themselves. They can use their interest results to explore the world of work.

The O*NET Interest Profiler is available in a paper and pencil version and a computerized version. These alternative delivery modes increase the flexibility that programs and clients have in career exploration.

The O*NET Interest Profiler measures six types of occupational interests:

The files below are provided to enable users to download and print the O*NET Interest Profiler instrument and related materials (e.g., score report, user guide, occupational lists). Two types of files have been produced: 1) PDF files for "Desktop" viewing and printing, and 2) PDF "Print Shop" files that can be used by programs/organizations with access to professional printing equipment. Summary descriptions of the files are provided below. A more detailed description of the files and their contents is available below for download.

This format is useful for those persons interested in producing single copies or for small volume duplication, where print quality is not a significant issue. These files are intended for desktop viewing or printing. [Note: This format should be used only for viewing or demonstrating the Interest Profiler instrument, not when it is administered as a client assessment.]

   This report is designed for use with the "O*NET Interest Profiler: Instrument." This report helps users understand what their results mean and how to link them to O*NET occupations. O*NET occupations are included in the report. It also explains how to use their results in exploring careers using O*NET OnLine (available at: http://online.onetcenter.org/). The Score Report is needed by each individual participant and is intended for participants to keep for their personal use.

3. O*NET Interest Profiler: User's Guide

   This guide was developed for programs (e.g., schools, employment service offices, career information delivery systems, out-placement programs) that will incorporate the Interest Profiler (IP) into their career exploration services. This guide can help users understand how the IP was developed and how to incorporate the IP into their programs properly. The User's Guide is needed by the program office or assessment administrator.

4. O*NET Interest Profiler: O*NET Occupations Master List

   This booklet lists O*NET 3.0 occupations by Interest Area/Job Zone category to help users explore careers. Occupations have been assigned to the groups based on their Primary Interest Area. 5. O*NET Occupations Combined List: Interests and Work Values

   This booklet is for use with both the Interest Profiler and the Work Importance Locator Instruments. It combines results of both instruments and provides a comprehensive listing of O*NET 3.0 occupations arranged by Job Zone for each Interest/Work Value category to help users explore careers.
