O*NET® Work Importance Locator^TM

Overview

These instruments are self-assessment career exploration tools that allow customers to pinpoint what is important to them in a job. They help people identify occupations that they may find satisfying based on the similarity between their work values (such as achievement, autonomy, and conditions of work) and the characteristics of the occupations.

The O*NET Work Importance Locator is a paper and pencil instrument and the O*NET Work Importance Profiler is computerized. These alternative delivery modes increase the flexibility that programs and clients have in career exploration.

The O*NET Work Importance Locator and Profiler measure six types of work values:

The files below are provided to enable users to download and print the O*NET Work Importance Locator Instrument and related materials (e.g., score report, user guide, occupational lists). Two types of files have been produced: 1) PDF files for "Desktop" viewing and printing, and 2) PDF "Print Shop" files that can be used by programs/organizations with access to professional printing equipment.    This report is designed for use with the "O*NET Work Importance Locator: Instrument." This report helps users understand what their results mean and how to link them to O*NET occupations. The Score Report is needed by each individual participant and is intended for participants to keep for their personal use.

3. O*NET Work Importance Locator: User's Guide

   This guide was developed for programs (e.g., schools, employment service offices, career information delivery systems, out-placement programs) that will incorporate the Work Importance Locator (WIL) into their career exploration services. This guide can help users understand how the WIL was developed and how to incorporate the WIL into their programs properly. The User's Guide is needed by the program office and/or assessment administrator.

4. O*NET Work Importance Locator: O*NET Occupations Master List

   This booklet lists O*NET 3.0 occupations by Work Value/Job Zone category to help users explore careers. Occupations have been assigned to the groups based on their highest work value. 5. O*NET Occupations Combined List: Interests and Work Values

   This booklet is for use with both the Interest Profiler and the Work Importance Locator Instruments.
